Fall Soap Bars
Today we wanted to feature our all-time favorite Fall Soap - Apple Spice. When the mornings are crisp and the leaves are turning, I love simmering a pot of apple cider filled with cinnamon sticks, cloves, and other spices. Why not make a soap bar inspired by this delicious smelling combination? We did!
Our Apple Spice soap bar is made with real Apple Cider as a substitute for the usual distilled water. The base recipe is olive oil, sunflower oil (from Colorado), shea butter, and coconut. Usually we add castor oil to our soap recipes to give extra bubbles, but the sugars from the Apple Cider will help ensure the lather and bubbles in this soap are just right!
For color, we went with 3 simple layers. The base layer is a natural dark chocolate from cocoa powder. The middle layer is all natural - just the color of the oils and the apple cider. The top layer is a reddish color, which uses a bit of red clay mixed with madder root. Madder root is a natural dye plant that you can grow in your own backyard! I harvested my first roots this past week - more to come in a future blog post.
The scent of this bar is a combination of orange, cinnamon, clove and patchouli oils. It smells delicious! Check out our Facebook post from last Fall that shows how we make this yummy soap bar.
